Changes in AEM Safety Manuals

2008/04/03

The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) has revised, effective February 2008, their Safety Manual for Operating and Maintenance Personnel (Aerial Platform), which AWPT requires to be provided in training programs.

There are significant changes between the old and new versions, e.g. elimination of graphics and introduction of symbols. One specific change is the elimination of the MSAD (minimum safe approach distance) chart that was widely used in the past and eliminated in the recent ANSI standards.

AWPT requires the AEM manual to be provided in all its training courses. The manual is also provided in the weather-proof storage compartment on all aerial lifts with the manufacturer manuals and ANSI standards.

“AWPT has clarified that the AEM is not requiring immediate update or replacement of old manuals,” said Tony Groat, AWPT Executive Vice President.

The new manuals can be implemented gradually and it is acceptable to use up previous versions in stock.
