Don't be a dummy; wear a harness on boom type platforms.
IPAF took a dramatic version of the Clunk Click message for harnesses on booms to the CONEXPO show in Las Vegas. The IPAF Safety Zone featured live demonstrations in which a crash dummy fitted to a specially modified Skyjack boom showed the effects of driving over a low-lying obstacle.
For safety reasons, the crash dummy was suspended at the top of the basket. The dummy was not wearing a harness, in order to show the consequences of the catapult and jolting effects when the boom went over an obstacle.
The Clunk Click campaign was enthusiastically welcomed at CONEXPO and the demonstration had a strong impact on those who saw it. At least one operator was reported saying that this was something he would never forget and that he would always wear a harness from now on.
"We have printed enough Click It! stickers for every boom in the US and call on everyone to put these stickers on booms in their fleet," said Tony Groat, AWPT Executive Vice President. AWPT (Aerial Work Platform Training) is the North American subsidiary of IPAF and Click It! is the North American version of the Clunk Click campaign.
