IPAF Summit Makes Safety a Management Issue

2010/02/15

This year’s Access Summit, organised by the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF), will focus on the theme of “Safety is a management issue”. The Summit is free and open to all interested parties. It will be held on March 25, 2010, starting at 13.30 hours, at the Grange St. Paul’s Hotel in London, UK.

The opening presentation will be given by Andy Studdert, CEO of US-based NES Rentals. He was the COO of United Airlines at the time of the 9/11 attacks and applies lessons from managing airlines to managing the powered access industry.

“We have world-class speakers who will show why safe operations are vital to any powered access business wanting to stay profitable,” said IPAF managing director Tim Whiteman.

Other speakers include:

Simon Rooks, operations director and head of UK and Ireland Fire at Tyco, who will speak about an accident that occurred at the company and the way this has changed what Tyco expects of its rental partners.

Jennifer Mathis, partner at Ducker Research, will analyze the European and the US powered access rental markets, drawing on research projects that she is leading on behalf of IPAF.

Joy Jones, a principal inspector of the UK Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and member of the Strategic Forum for Construction Plant Safety, will examine management’s responsibilities toward AWP operators.

David Shipman, one of the pioneers of the powered access industry and chairman of UK-based AFI-Uplift, will present his views on why management should be concerned about safety issues.

The Summit is free to all interested parties who should register online at ipaf.org/events

It is followed by the International Awards for Powered Access (IAPA) ceremony and dinner. Information on dinner bookings and getting to the venue is at ipaf.org/iapa
