 The employer shall take measures necessary to ensure that: - Workers given the task of using work equipment receive adequate training, including training on any risks that will be encountered;
- Workers receive adequate specific training.
The employer: - Has a duty of care for own employees and for all persons in the workplace including visitors
- Must provide safe tools and equipment
- Must provide safe workplace and environmnet
- Must provide information, instruction, training and supervision
- Must provide suitable PPE - free of charge
- Must communicate health and safety policy to all employees
The employee: - Shares a duty of care for own safety
- And the safety of others who may be affected by acts or omissions
- Must cooperate with employer "in discharge statutory obligations"
- Must not interfere with or misuse equipment provided for safety
- Work equipment is so constructed or adapted as to be suitable for the purpose for which it is provided
- Good working order, maintained and repaired
- Employee must be authorized to use the equipment
- Inspected at suitable internals to ensure machine is safe to operate
- Employers must provide adequate training, to operators, supervisors and managers of all work equipment
- If you have not been trained, you must not operate an AWP
Every lifting operation involving lifting equipment must be properly planned by a competent person, appropriately supervised and carried out in a safe manner.
For every AWP the operator must know: - Safe working load
- Maximum number of people it can carry
- Maximum safe operating wind speed
- Evidence of a thorough examination
