You must have Professional Indemnity Insurance in place to cover risks pertaining to training activities, as well as Public Liability Insurance. You must provide evidence to AWPT of these policies.
You must have basic training facilities including:
• Fully equipment classroom to carry out the theory part of the training
• Suitable premises to carry out the practical part of the training (machines, etc.)
You must have an employee who has been trained to AWPT instructor level in the courses that you intend to offer.
AWPT instructors must have qualifications including but not limited to the following:
• Proper experience with operating practice
• Evidence of acceptable instructional techniques training
• Evidence of aerial work platform specific instructor training and assessment
AWPT instructors can only be trained and assessed by senior instructors at AWPT-approved training centers. AWPT can help find a suitable senior instructor near you and advise you of prices.
You will receive a training center pack to get you started, including the AWPT operations manual, training material and CD, plus a brass plaque and certificate confirming your status as an AWPT-approved training center.
Your ongoing training costs consist of the annual audit fee, the registration fee for each PAL Card and the cost of the Operators’ Safety Guide that you must supply each course participant.
The Operators’ Safety Guide can be purchased in your own corporate colors. Audits are carried out once a year and training centers may also receive unannounced visits.
You need to register on the AWPT online system and receive confirmation that you have been set up with your own username and password. All courses must be registered online with AWPT at least 24 hours before they start.
